Board and Committee meeting information now available 24/7

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced today that the Town
of Hanover has successfully implemented changes she recommended last year
to the process the town’s boards and committees use to notify the public
of upcoming meetings and related agendas. “Gone are the days of posting
paper meeting notices on bulletin boards that nobody reads or has easy
access to. This has been a terrific collaborative effort across the entire
town. The Board of Selectmen passed the new policy last August. Boards
and committees have been practicing and training how to post meetings on
the town’s website since last fall. Tom Nee, the Computer Coordinator,
has done yeoman’s work to add scores of new web page administrators to
the town’s rolls and assist them with the technical issues. We’ve
distributed training materials and held a training session. Town employees
and committee volunteers have patiently learned how to navigate their way
through the technical steps involved. The Commonwealth’s Division of
Open Government has been notified. And on January 1st, 2015 we went
live,” announced Harder-Bernier.

Residents are encouraged to navigate to the front page of the town’s
website, found at www.hanover-ma.gov , and click on the calendar icon on
the right hand side. There they will find meeting notices and agendas for
every public body in Hanover that is meeting in the near future. All of
the requirements of the Open Meeting Law will still apply, such as 48
weekday hours’ notice will be given, and agendas will be attached.
“Residents of Hanover will be able to easily access important information
that will help them to engage in the process of running our town,” said
Harder-Bernier. “The information will be available 24 hours a day, 7
days a week, and will be yet another transparent window into our
government.”

In addition to this new “alternate meeting posting” process, the Town
has also added a new computer kiosk outside the Town Clerk’s Office for
residents who might not have access to a computer. “There are still
people in town who do not have access to a computer, and even those with
computers might have technical issues that prevent them from accessing the
information on any given day,” noted Harder-Bernier. “I am delighted
to further announce that a public access computer terminal is now also
available here outside my office during normal business hours. Come check
it out!”

For more information about the new meeting posting process, residents are
encouraged to contact Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at (781)
826-5000, x 1079 or catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov , or simply go
on the town’s website at www.hanover-ma.gov .
