Tuesday, February 3, 7:15 p.m.

Phoenix Lodge, Broadway and Washington Streets

The Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover invites interested members of the
public to a free lecture and slide show, “Gardening in the Shade” to be
presented by Suzanne Mahler on Tuesday, evening, February 3 at 7:15 p.m. at
the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, Broadway and Washington Streets, Hanover.

Gardening in the Shade: Shady sites pose challenges but need not lack
pizzazz! This presentation will define types of shade and cover site
analysis, cultural conditions, and soil amendments accompanied by colorful
images of shade gardens and plants. Learn which trees, shrubs, and
perennials tolerate low light while providing fabulous flowers and foliages
for a peaceful shady retreat.

February is the perfect time to plan new gardens, research plants, and get
organized for the spring planting season.

In-club expert Suzanne Mahler is an avid gardener, photographer and
lecturer who has been developing the 1.5-acre property surrounding her home
in Hanover for more than 30 years. Her weekly gardening column ‘Green
Thumbs Up’ has appeared in Gate House Media New England newspapers for

Society, an overseer for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and is
employed at a local garden center. Come with questions about your gardening
problems and get advice from an expert.
