Vacation Week Music Program at the John Curtis Library

Dear fellow Hanoverians:

Vacation Week Music Program at the John Curtis Library

David Coffin, a musician, singer, storyteller, educator and maritime
specialist, will present “Life At Sea: A Voyage In Song” at the
library on Tuesday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. The musical program recreates a
voyage on an old Nantucket whaling ship, with the audience members acting
as the ship’s crew. Mr. Coffin will lead the audience in singing sea
chanteys, “hoisting the sails”, and taking part in other shipboard
activities. Playing the concertina and other instruments, he is
particularly skilled at getting a whole audience singing. There will also
be a special appearance by his friend Sarafina, a limberjack. (What is
that? Come to the show and find out!) The program is very interactive,
full of humor, and informative as well as entertaining.

Mr. Coffin is a descendant of the Nantucket Coffins, one of the most
prominent American seafaring families. He is a multitalented performer
who has been singing and playing music at hundreds of venues all over the
country for more than 30 years. He regularly presents educational programs
at schools around New England. Since 1991 he has been Master of Ceremonies
for the Christmas Revels in Cambridge, MA. Well-known storyteller Jay
O’Callahan has said of him, “David Coffin is a man of presence, humor
and magical abilities. He is a musician, singer and storyteller whose
enthusiasm transforms an audience.”

The program is recommended for families with children in kindergarten and
older, and adults without children are also welcome to attend. They hope
to attract a multigenerational audience, as anyone who likes music and
history can enjoy this presentation. For more information, please call
781-826-2972, extension 4, or email the children’s librarian at
