Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
On Saturday, December 18, the School Committee met with administrators
\nregarding the FY ’12 budget. In preparing for this meeting, the school
\ncommittee directed the administration to prepare its fourth straight year of
\na level funded budget of $23,132,796, which in order to meet contractual
\nobligations translates into an almost $2.0 million dollar cut, offset by a
\none-time deferred federal grant for education jobs of $368,725, for a net
\nreduction of over $1.6 million dollars. <\/p>\n
There are two important budget meetings that are coming up in the next week
\nthat you may be interested in attending. I encourage you to attend to get
\nupdated information, and hear the budget discussions from our town leaders:<\/p>\n
TONIGHT, January 5th, 7:00 p.m., School Committee, Salmond School<\/p>\n
January 10th, 7:00 p.m., School Committee\/Selectman, Town Hall<\/p>\n

(Please keep in mind that it is the position that is being cut, not
\nnecessarily the person due to contract language, bumping, etc.) <\/p>\n

$50,000 in discretionary spending<\/p>\n
Sub-total of building-based potential cuts = $764.5K<\/p>\n
DISTRICT – proposed cuts; to be discussed tonight<\/p>\n
Retirements – $301K<\/p>\n
Technology – $50K (total budget is only $130K)<\/p>\n
Athletics – $75K cut (no freshman sports, increased user fees to off-set)<\/p>\n
Maintenance – $81K expenses<\/p>\n
Custodial – $40K<\/p>\n
Transportation – $122K (no high school buses regardless of user fees,
\nconsolidation of mid-day kindergarten runs, SPED transportation cut, new
\ncontract)<\/p>\n
Professional Development – $50K (40% of budget)<\/p>\n
Special Education – $84K<\/p>\n
District discretionary – $10K<\/p>\n
For a total of approximately $1,577,500 in potential cuts currently
\nidentified.<\/p>\n
