STATE FUNDING APPROVED FOR HANOVER’S BARSTOW VILLAGE<\/p>\n
66-unit complex to bolster housing opportunities for seniors, create
\nconstruction jobs <\/p>\n
(State House, Boston) – As part of a $71 million state pledge to build and
\npreserve 1,642 housing units throughout Massachusetts, Governor Deval
\nPatrick, in partnership with Hanover State Representative Rhonda Nyman and
\nCongressman Bill Keating, announced that a total of $3.3 million has been
\nawarded to move forward construction plans for the proposed Barstow Village
\nsenior housing project on Legion Drive in Hanover.<\/p>\n
The announcement was made by the Governor on Wednesday, February 16th.<\/p>\n
"Thanks to the work of so many people, Hanover’s Barstow Village is one step
\ncloser to becoming a reality for our community," said Representative Nyman.
\n"For the past few years, members of the Hanover Housing Authority have
\nworked tirelessly with local partners to advance this project. The funding
\napproved by the state this week will surely help bolster housing
\nopportunities for our seniors and put our neighbors in the construction
\nindustry back to work."<\/p>\n
Under the announcement, EA Fish Development, the project developer hired by
\nthe Hanover Housing Authority, will use $1 million in federal low-income
\nhousing tax credits and an additional $2.3 million in program subsidies made
\navailable by the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development to
\nconstruct 66 new units of affordable rental housing for residents 62 years
\nof age or older. 10 of the units will be reserved for extremely low-income
\nhouseholds.<\/p>\n
The project is also expected to generate 72 construction jobs.<\/p>\n
