One of the most entertaining and important events in the life of our
\ntown begins next Monday, May 2nd with a Special Town Meeting to close
\nout FY â??11 business beginning at 7:30 p.m. and the Annual Town
\nMeeting to open up FY â??12 business beginning at 8:00 p.m. Both
\nevents will occur for the last (!) time in the soon-to-be-replaced
\nHanover High School.
\nAlthough there are only 63 articles on the warrant, discussions
\nleading up to Town Meeting have highlighted several hot-button items
\nsuch as the future of the town-owned 645 Center Street property, the
\npotential consolidation of town and school maintenance departments,
\nproposed amendments to the Town Manager Act, the potential demolition
\nof Curtis School, the requested removal of the Deputy Fire Chief from
\nthe provisions of Civil Service Law, possible changes to the
\nInterchange District that borders the Walnut Hill neighborhood, and
\npotential increases in fees for business before the Board of Health,
\ndisposal of residential construction debris, and fees for commercial
\nand residential electric, gas and plumbing permits. A big ticket item
\nthat caught my eye was the request to borrow $8.5 million to improve
\nthe townâ??s infrastructure, and a sure sentimental favorite is the
\nmove afoot to name the new Hanover High Auditorium after Bob Nyman.
\nThink the Town Clerk should remain an elected position? Youâ??ll need
\nto stay until the bitter end â?? thatâ??s Article 62!
