Dear fellow Hanoverians:
\nA reader who missed the chance to get swabbed at the two recent bone
\nmarrow registry drives (as described here on \u201cATOTW\u201d earlier this
\nsummer) inquired today about any further opportunities to participate.
\nHer e-mail reminded me that I have been meaning to send a follow-up
\nwith that information as well as to thank all of you who already
\nregistered!
\nFirst of all, the Metzger Family is very appreciative of the 238
\nindividuals who registered at the two mid-summer bone marrow donor
\ndrives here on the South Shore! I had the good fortune to assist at
\nthe \u201ccheek swab table\u201d at both of the drives and was overwhelmed
\nwith the turnout and good cheer that prevailed. Dr. Amanda Metzger was
\npresent at the second drive for a little while and she was so grateful
\nto everyone who came out to support her son Nick who is in need of a
\nbone marrow transplant.
\nIf anyone would still like to register to be a potential donor, it is
\nactually easily accomplished on-line. Go to www.marrow.org<\/p>\n
and follow the links that say \u201cjoin now\u201d. After filling out the
\nregistration information, you will receive a cheek swab packet and
\nfurther instructions in the mail. While I was at the donor drives, I
\nlearned that cost to process your registration (usually around $100,
\nbut not at all obligatory for donors) is actually covered by your
\nhealth insurance as required by Massachusetts law! There are other
\nstates that cover it too, so if your company\u2019s health insurance is
\nbased somewhere else, make sure you look into it.
\nHeartfelt thanks again to all who have already or plan to register to
\npotentially save a life! Your kindness and selflessness is admirable.<\/p>\n
