Dear fellow Hanoverians:
\nOne thing I absolutely love about writing \u201cAround Town on the Web\u201d
\nis how I see us pull together as a community\u2026especially during
\nstressful weeks like this past week. Between Hurricane Irene and the
\ncontinued house breaks, nerves are fraying all over Hanover. But
\ninstead of lashing out at each other, we are joining in and pitching
\nin to help our neighbors.
\nBefore I go any further, I have one more National Grid power update
\nfor those of you who are still without electricity. A reader (who also
\nhappens to be a Selectman!) wrote in and let me know that individual
\nhomeowners are able to get an estimate for when their particular house
\nwill be back with electricity. Of course you have to use a smartphone
\nor borrow a computer and power somewhere to get this info, but it\u2019s
\npretty cool that it even exists, and I am sure there are some of you
\nout there who will use this info right away. So, go to this webpage:

\n and follow the directions therein. You have to create an on-line
\naccount (if you don\u2019t have one already) and give some identifying
\ninformation, but you can both report an outage as well as get an
\nestimate for when your particular house will be back with power with
\nthat system.
\nI also wanted to let you know that I have gotten several e-mails from
\nliterally random but generous readers who wanted to offer their homes
\nand electricity and a home-cooked meal to anyone who needed it. While
\nI think that sort of thing is better handled by the bighearted
\nhomeowner themselves; it sure was a nice gesture and I was happy to
\nmake referrals if I knew of anyone in need. I also received several
\npleas for unused generators and the like and referred residents to the
\nHanover Emergency Management Agency as that is well within their
\npurview to assist with. Concerned residents who live near or far from
\nthe break-ins wrote in with tips regarding alarm systems, dogs,
\nelectronics inventories and the like. And I never cease to be amazed
\nby the strong women in this community who have been victims of a
\nhouse-break but who call or write to me with their news so that others
\ncan be vigilant again.
\nI love helping to make connections and bring people together here in
\nHanover. Have I mentioned lately that \u201ctogether we make this town
\ngreat\u201d???!!!! <\/p>\n
