The Hanover Special Education Parent Advisory Council is pleased to
\nannounce their next educational seminar. All events are free and open
\nto the public, with no reservations required. Please join them! <\/p>\n
*Transition 101: from High School to Adulthood, *with Marilyn Weber of
\nthe Federation for Children with Special Needs\/. <\/p>\n

\n*Tuesday, December 6, 2011, Hanover High School, 287 Cedar Street,
\nfirst floor, 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.*<\/p>\n
This workshop will focus on the needs of students who are not expected
\nto pass the MCAS and graduate at the traditional age of 18. We will
\ndiscuss the effective use of the IEP and the Massachusetts Transition
\nPlanning Form for students who are ages 14 \u2013 22. It has been shown
\nthat individualized, person centered planning of curriculum and
\nsupports throughout high school leads to better post high school
\noutcomes and opportunities in education, training, and\/or employment
\nfor students with disabilities. Discussion will include the age of
\nmajority, self determination and self advocacy, life skill development
\nand preparing students to pursue as independent an adult life as
\npossible.<\/p>\n
*What is the Hanover Parent Advisory Council?*
\nThe *PAC* is a parent group whose mission is to work toward
\nunderstanding, respect, support and appropriate education for all
\nchildren with learning differences in our community. The *Hanover PAC*
\nwill provide an opportunity for parents to network and share
\ninformation as well as a way to work constructively with our schools
\nto make them the best they can be for all children.
