{"id":1454,"date":"2012-01-29T15:20:06","date_gmt":"2012-01-29T19:20:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=1454"},"modified":"2012-01-29T15:20:06","modified_gmt":"2012-01-29T19:20:06","slug":"get-prepared-for-winter-storm-emergencies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=1454","title":{"rendered":"Get prepared for winter storm emergencies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear fellow Hanoverians:<br \/>\nAs a follow up to their fall safety tips e-mail, the Hanover Woman\u2019s<br \/>\nClub Juniors sent along the following public service announcement for<br \/>\nHanover residents:<br \/>\nGet prepared for winter storm emergencies!<br \/>\n\u00b7 Buy non-perishable food such as peanut butter and jelly, crackers,<br \/>\ndry cereal, chips, breakfast bars, pudding cups, water, juices, etc.<br \/>\nPut these items away just in case you cannot get to the store for a<br \/>\nday or two. Food for the animals in your house is also important to<br \/>\nthem.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Make sure you have enough batteries for radios, flashlight, clocks<br \/>\nand games. You should have a flashlight for each member of the family.<br \/>\nStock up on candles with secure holders and matches.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Have hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, snow pants and boots<br \/>\navailable.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Have games appropriate for children. Cards, board games, hide and<br \/>\nseek in the house, reading books, storytelling, singing, paper and<br \/>\npencils, crayons, paint, etc. This helps to pass the time since the TV<br \/>\nand electronic games and cell phones will not work until electricity<br \/>\nis restored.<br \/>\n\u00b7 If you find yourself without electricity for a few days, being in<br \/>\nthe dark is scary for young children. If you have sleeping bags, put<br \/>\nthem all in one room and pretend you are camping! The young ones will<br \/>\nadjust better to knowing you are nearby.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Make sure you have enough gas in your car or truck. Check the oil,<br \/>\nwater, and antifreeze and windshield washer fluid. A folding shovel is<br \/>\na must if you must dig your car out of a snow bank.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Keep extra sets of hats, coats, socks, mittens, sweaters,<br \/>\nsweatpants, blankets, water and crackers in the trunk of your car or<br \/>\ntruck just in case you\u2019re stuck in your vehicle due to break downs<br \/>\non the highway for an extended period of time.<br \/>\n\u00b7 Make sure your snow blower has enough fuel and is in working<br \/>\ncondition.<br \/>\n\u00b7 How about the old shovel?
