{"id":1482,"date":"2012-03-09T10:30:04","date_gmt":"2012-03-09T14:30:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=1482"},"modified":"2012-03-09T10:30:04","modified_gmt":"2012-03-09T14:30:04","slug":"what-are-we-eating-with-the-y-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=1482","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;What are we eating?&#8221; with the Y"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n<p>The South Shore YMCA in Hanover, the South Shore Natural Science<br \/>\nCenter and Sustainable Hanover are collaborating to empower and<br \/>\neducate healthy eating, sustainability, community connection and<br \/>\nenvironmental responsibility through a thought-provoking film series<br \/>\ncalled \/What ARE We Eating??? \/<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur collaborative effort began with an idea to build a garden in<br \/>\n2009\u201d says Kim Engle, Arts and Education Director at the South Shore<br \/>\nYMCA; \u201cwe collaborated with Sustainable Hanover and found ourselves<br \/>\nwith a portable greenhouse, a successful sustainability fundraising<br \/>\nevent and the realization that we need to do more education.\u201d<br \/>\nSustainable Hanover and the South Shore YMCA continued their joint<br \/>\nefforts with a few small film events, kids\u2019 events and teen events.<br \/>\nIn September of 2011, the Y began its official partnership with the<br \/>\nSouth Shore Natural Science Center and the film series was realized. <\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s film will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the South Shore<br \/>\nNatural Science Center on:<\/p>\n<p>\/March 15, 2012\/<br \/>\n*\/The True Cost of Food\/*&#8211;brought to us by the Sierra Club\u2019s<br \/>\nNational Sustainable Consumption Committee, addresses the importance<br \/>\nof eating locally to think globally. \u201cMost of the world&#8217;s problems<br \/>\ncan&#8217;t be fixed by individual action: disease, war, and poverty require<br \/>\nconcentrated efforts by policy makers and governments. But ONLY<br \/>\nconsumers can affect the way food is grown and transported; this is an<br \/>\narea where our actions make a difference. If we buy food that&#8217;s grown<br \/>\nsustainably, supply will follow demand and it will become more<br \/>\navailable.
