The South Shore YMCA in Hanover, the South Shore Natural Science
\nCenter and Sustainable Hanover are collaborating to empower and
\neducate healthy eating, sustainability, community connection and
\nenvironmental responsibility through a thought-provoking film series
\ncalled \/What ARE We Eating??? \/<\/p>\n
\u201cOur collaborative effort began with an idea to build a garden in
\n2009\u201d says Kim Engle, Arts and Education Director at the South Shore
\nYMCA; \u201cwe collaborated with Sustainable Hanover and found ourselves
\nwith a portable greenhouse, a successful sustainability fundraising
\nevent and the realization that we need to do more education.\u201d
\nSustainable Hanover and the South Shore YMCA continued their joint
\nefforts with a few small film events, kids\u2019 events and teen events.
\nIn September of 2011, the Y began its official partnership with the
\nSouth Shore Natural Science Center and the film series was realized. <\/p>\n
This month\u2019s film will be held at 7:00 p.m. at the South Shore
\nNatural Science Center on:<\/p>\n

\n*\/The True Cost of Food\/*–brought to us by the Sierra Club\u2019s
\nNational Sustainable Consumption Committee, addresses the importance
\nof eating locally to think globally. \u201cMost of the world’s problems
\ncan’t be fixed by individual action: disease, war, and poverty require
\nconcentrated efforts by policy makers and governments. But ONLY
\nconsumers can affect the way food is grown and transported; this is an
\narea where our actions make a difference. If we buy food that’s grown
\nsustainably, supply will follow demand and it will become more
\navailable. When it becomes obvious that small farmers can make a
\ndecent living, more young people will be able to start farming.\u201d –
