Town Meeting and Town Election season is upon us! As always, \u201cAround
\nTown on the Web\u201d is delighted to offer this venue to candidates and
\ntown meeting participants to highlight candidacies or issues of
\ninterest. Submissions will be edited for clarity, bias, and length,
\nbut are welcomed and appreciated!<\/p>\n
Our first submission comes from Hanover resident Chris Haraden, the
\nlead sponsor for Town Meeting Article 54, and is as follows:<\/p>\n
A citizen\u2019s petition article on the May 7th Annual Town Meeting
\nwarrant asks voters to revisit last year\u2019s decision to tear down the
\n1896 Curtis School. <\/p>\n
The motion on the article, as printed in the warrant, reads:
\n\u201cArticle 54. To see if the Town will vote to rescind its vote under
\nArticle 28 of the May 2, 2011 Annual Town Meeting, and to direct the
\nTown Moderator to appoint a Curtis School Task Force to conduct a
\ncomprehensive review, involving any applicable town departments,
\nboards, committees, community groups, and private parties, of all
\navailable data and options for the building and land at 848 Main
\nStreet, including, but not limited to, repair, renovation, alteration,
\nadaptive reuse, sale or lease of structures. Said Task Force shall
\nissue its report and recommendations no later than the next Annual
\nTown Meeting, or to take any other action in relation thereto.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last year, Article 28 appropriated $75,000 to tear down the school.
\nThe Hanover Historical Commission later voted to delay demolition of
\nthe building for a year. More information, including reports,
