I am delighted to feature a reprint of the Woman\u2019s Club
\nCandidate\u2019s Night bio sheets for some of the candidates for
\ntown-wide office over the next several days. Read on and become an
\neducated voter! The election will be held next Saturday, May 12th from
\n8:00 a.m. \u2013 6:00 p.m.

My wife and I have two children in the Hanover School system. <\/p>\n
I work in the software development arena for a worldwide financial
\ncompany where I see on a daily basis the skill sets our children will
\nneed to compete in a global economy. <\/p>\n
*What are the major issues confronting the town which involve your
\noffice? Please express your opinion on these issues and how you
\npropose to deal with them.*<\/p>\n
The Hanover school system lacks educational consistency. Hanover\u2019s
\nMCAS scores show a competitive system when compared to surrounding
\ntowns. However Hanover students\u2019 SAT and AP scores fall below state
\naverage, and fall behind most of our neighbors. The last publicly
\navailable AP test results show more students fail than pass the exam.<\/p>\n
I question how the system uses technology. A question I should have
\npursued 11 years ago when I volunteered for the School Technology
\nCommittee. At the initial meeting, the technology director excitedly
\nexplained to me how the school system had 1000 computers all wired to
\nthe Internet. I asked what the computer equipment was used for. The
\nresponse, \u201cGood question, it\u2019s something we\u2019d like to find
\nout\u201d. <\/p>\n
Flash-forward to the present, what are the computers used for in the
\nclassroom? Does the school system really need 1200 computers? <\/p>\n

\nI want to correct the system\u2019s failure to properly educate our youth
\nin what\u2019s needed for today\u2019s workplace. <\/p>\n
I don\u2019t believe the answer is giving the school system more money.
\nThe school system has the money. It\u2019s a matter of allocating it
\ncorrectly. I\u2019ve compared Hanover schools spending against
\nsurrounding towns, and found our administrative costs exceed state
\naverage, and those of surrounding towns. <\/p>\n
