\nFrom the Town Manager\u2019s Office:
\nToday, May 15th, is National Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day set
\naside to honor fallen heroes of law enforcement. The holiday was first
\nobserved on October 1, 1961, when Congress asked President John F.
\nKennedy to designate May 15 to honor police officers. President
\nKennedy agreed, and signed the bill into law on October 1, 1962. In
\n1994, President Bill Clinton enhanced the observance and directed that
\nthe flag of the United States be flown at half-staff on May 15. More
\nrecently, President George W. Bush observed the following: “Peace
\nOfficers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State,
\nand Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with
\ncourage and dedication.”
\nPlease join Chief Sweeney and the men and women of law enforcement in
\nHanover by sharing in this solemn observation of the courage and
\ndedication of our police professionals.
