*HANOVER\u2019S WALNUT HILL GARDEN CLUB PREPARES FOR PLANT SALE MAY 19th*<\/p>\n
*SALE FEATURES PLANTS THAT THRIVE IN LOCAL CONDITIONS*
\n* *
\nWalnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover will hold it\u2019s biennial public
\nplant sale on *Saturday, May 19th from 9:00 a.m. \u2013 12:00 p.m. *at
\n*Riley Hall *of the* First Congregational Church *located at 17 Silver
\nStreet (corner of Silver and Hanover Streets) in Hanover.
\nCo-presidents and sale organizers Nancy Arienti and Donna Kirby report
\nthe sale will feature a large selection of plants from member gardens,
\nall at affordable prices. Included for sunny spots are colorful
\ndaylilies, iris, Shasta daisies, and ornamental grasses, shade
\ndwelling hosta, astilbe and other hardy plants, plus ground covers,
\nshrubs and more. <\/p>\n
Said Arienti, \u201cWe are digging and dividing plants now in our
\nmembers\u2019 gardens, so we will have nice big clumps of hardy local
\nplants. All will do well in our local environment. There will also be
\ndivisions of the great plants featured on our traffic islands, like
\nthe big white Shasta daisies and blue irises on the island in front of
\nSt. Mary\u2019s Church. Once established, many of these plants are
\ndrought tolerant, especially important when we may have a very dry
\nsummer.\u201d<\/p>\n
This is the third time the Walnut Hill sale will be held at theFirst
\nCongregational Church\u2019s Riley Hall. \u201cThe Riley Hall is ideally
\nsituated since it\u2019s right in the center of town with great parking
\nin front and behind the hall,\u201d offered Arienti. \u201cWe have been
\nalternating years for our plant sale with our sister club in town, the
\nHanover Garden Club, so there will always be a town plant sale
\norganized by one or the other of our clubs offering the chance to buy
\nhardy plants at great prices.\u201d She suggests shoppers come early for
\nthe best selection, and recommends you bring plant trays, crates and
\nboxes to carry purchases home.
\nSales proceeds will benefit Hanover beautification projects.<\/p>\n
