\n*What: Gardening for the 21st Century\/ – A lecture and slide show by
\nMarie Stella, Landscape Historian and Landscape Designer\/*

\n*Where: Phoenix Lodge, Broadway and Washington Streets, Hanover*
\n*The Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover* invites interested members of
\nthe public to a free lecture and slide show on Tuesday evening,
\nOctober 2nd at 7:15 p.m., at the Phoenix Masonic Lodge, Broadwayand
\nWashington Streets in Hanover. Marie Stella, landscape historian and
\nlandscape designer, holds graduate certificates in Landscape Design
\nand Landscape Design History from Radcliffe College, Harvard
\nUniversity and will be speaking.
\nIn her Hanover lecture, Stella will discuss how a sustainable
\nlandscape can address present resident needs without adversely
\nimpacting the ability of future residents to meet new and changing
\nneeds. Addressing environmental awareness, Stella will highlight
\ninnovative ways to use plant material to clean air, soil and water and
\nto restore our ecological systems. Topics include dry gardening, plant
\nbuffer zones, the lawn, and invasive species. New directions in water
\nmanagement concentrate on the permeable ground plane, mulches and
\nnatural swimming pools without chemicals. Heirloom and unusual
\nvarieties of herbs, vegetables, fruits and flowers bind us to our
\npast; Stella will discuss why it is important to preserve the full
\nrange of genetic possibilities of such plants for the future. To
