The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee is proud to
\nannounce that JUDITH-ANN “Judy” GRECCO has been selected as the
\nrecipient of the 12th Annual Spirit of Hanover Community Service
\nAward.<\/p>\n
This Award is presented annually to an individual who best exemplifies
\nthe Spirit of Hanover by voluntarily giving selflessly of their time,
\nenergy and talent to the Town and its citizens thus enriching our
\nlives, fostering a true sense of community and inspiring us all to a
\nhigher level of service. <\/p>\n
With the exception of a single month\u2019s residency in Whitman which
\nshe learned about later in life, Judy Grecco is a life-long resident
\nof the Town of Hanover. Judy attended the Salmond School and graduated
\nfrom \u201cthe new\u201d High School in 1965, married her high-school
\nsweetheart Joe and raised two daughters. Much of Judy\u2019s revered
\nknowledge of the outdoors originated with her grandfather, Harry
\nGardner. Judy and husband Joe live in the Gardner family house on East
\nStreet to this day. As a member of the Open Space Committee and the
\nNorth and South Rivers Watershed Association, Judy has led numerous
\nhikes and raised public awareness of our open spaces, including the
\nannual hike at the Fire Museum, all the while patiently teaching the
\nnext caretaking generations of Hanover residents. She has served on
\nthe Board of Directors and is the current co-president of the Hanover
\nHistorical Society, thereby presiding over the organization\u2019s 85th
\nyear. Her love of history and the outdoors can be seen in the historic
\nexhibits at the John Curtis Library, Hanover High School, the
\nsought-after historic building cut-outs at the Stetson House, and
\nwhile she makes and sells wreaths every Christmas at the Stetson
\nHouse. Judy is also a member of the Walnut Hill Garden Club and the
\nCouncil on Aging.
