Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n

I recently read with interest about the new Hanover Energy
\nAdvisory Committee that was established by the Board of Selectmen.\u00a0 Below
\nplease find their introductory letter, as recently distributed by the Selectmen\u2019s
\nOffice:\n<\/p>\n

Hanover Energy Advisory Committee<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/strong><\/p>\n

The
\nHanover Energy Advisory Committee was established by the Hanover Board of
\nSelectmen. The committee was formed and held the first meeting on September 23,
\n2008. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Purpose\/Charge<\/span><\/strong>:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Our
\nMission is to identify opportunities and make recommendations with regard to
\nreducing energy consumption, increasing energy efficiency and exploring
\nalternative energy usage, through the development of energy policies, practices
\nand implementing technologies that will increase cost savings for the
\nmunicipality. <\/span>\n<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Objectives:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Inventory the energy
\nconsumption by all Town owned buildings, vehicles, and equipment to establish
\nbenchmarks and obtain baseline data. \u00a0Utilize the baseline data to
\nidentify improvement opportunities and to measure the future progress achieved.
\n<\/span><\/p>\n

2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Evaluate partnership
\norganizations (local utilities, State & Federal programs, etc.) that could
\nprovide technical assistance, grants and other resources that will aid in
\nreducing the Town\u2019s energy costs, energy consumption and greenhouse gas
\nemissions.<\/span><\/p>\n

3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>Develop
\nrecommendations to promote and implement energy conservation measures for
\nexisting and forthcoming Town owned buildings, vehicles, and equipment.<\/span><\/p>\n

4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span><\/span>\u00a0Research and
\nexplore the feasibility and funding sources for alternative energy
\ntechnologies. Develop policies and recommendations to promote renewable energy
\ninitiatives and assist with their implementation.<\/span><\/p>\n

5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Draft and endorse an Energy
\nPolicy that would set the course for achieving a 20% reduction of energy (and
\nresulting costs) over a 5 year period per the Green Communities Act and open
\nfurther grant opportunities.<\/span><\/p>\n

6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Work with town officials to establish regulations for
\nall new residential, commercial and industrial construction that promotes
\nenergy efficiency, conservation or alternative power generation in conjunction
\nwith the Green Communities Act to minimize life-cycle energy costs.<\/p>\n

7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Establish standards for purchase of fuel-efficient
\nvehicles.<\/p>\n

8.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0
\n<\/span><\/span>Explore the Green Communities Act, as-of-right siting
\nin designated locations for Renewable Energy\/Alternative Energy
\n\u2018Generation\u2019 and\/or RE\/AE \u2018Research and Development\u2019
\nand\/or RE\/AE \u2018Manufacturing\u2019. And an expedited 12 month
\napplication\/permitting process.\n<\/p>\n
