Effective strategies for working with ADHD
\nTuesday, January 13, 2015, 7 p.m. \u2013 9 p.m.
\nHanover High School, Multipurpose Room \u2013 First Floor, 287 Cedar
\nStreet
\nPresented by: Dr. Robert Walker, Healthcare South<\/p>\n
Description: ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity,
\nimpulsivity, or a combination of all three. In this workshop Dr.
\nRobert Walker will discuss what ADHD is and what is not and provide
\nparents and teachers with effective strategies to manage related
\nbehaviors.<\/p>\n
Inattentive symptoms include:
\n1. Fails to give close attention to details or makes careless mistakes
\nin schoolwork
\n2. Has difficulty keeping attention during tasks or play
\n3. Does not seem to listen when spoken to directly
\n4. Does not follow through on instructions and fails to finish
\nschoolwork, chores, or duties in the workplace
\n5. Has difficulty organizing tasks and activities
\n6. Often loses toys, assignments, pencils, books, or tools<\/p>\n
Hyperactivity symptoms:
\n1. Fidgets with hands or feet or squirms in seat
\n2. Leaves seat when remaining seated is expected
\n3. Runs about or climbs in inappropriate situations
\n4. Has difficulty playing quietly
\n5. Is often “on the go,” acts as if “driven by a motor,” talks
\nexcessively<\/p>\n
Impulsivity symptoms:
\n1. Blurts out answers before questions have been completed
\n2. Has difficulty awaiting turn
\n3. Interrupts or intrudes on others<\/p>\n
