The Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover invites interested members of the
\npublic to a free lecture and slide show, \u201cGardening in the Shade\u201d to be
\npresented by Suzanne Mahler on Tuesday, evening, February 3 at 7:15 p.m. at
\nthe Phoenix Masonic Lodge, Broadway and Washington Streets, Hanover.<\/p>\n
Gardening in the Shade: Shady sites pose challenges but need not lack
\npizzazz! This presentation will define types of shade and cover site
\nanalysis, cultural conditions, and soil amendments accompanied by colorful
\nimages of shade gardens and plants. Learn which trees, shrubs, and
\nperennials tolerate low light while providing fabulous flowers and foliages
\nfor a peaceful shady retreat.<\/p>\n
February is the perfect time to plan new gardens, research plants, and get
\norganized for the spring planting season. <\/p>\n
In-club expert Suzanne Mahler is an avid gardener, photographer and
\nlecturer who has been developing the 1.5-acre property surrounding her home
\nin Hanover for more than 30 years. Her weekly gardening column \u2018Green
\nThumbs Up\u2019 has appeared in Gate House Media New England newspapers for
\nmore than a decade. She is a past president of the New England Daylily
\nSociety, an overseer for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society and is
\nemployed at a local garden center. Come with questions about your gardening
\nproblems and get advice from an expert.<\/p>\n
