I
love that ATOTW has become a cornerstone of how we connect with each other
as a town and as neighbors.

Today I am writing to introduce you to efforts to support Alison Joy Light,
a three year old spitfire of a toddler with never ending curiosity, guts
and a delightful spirit. “Ali”, her big brother Sam, and her parents
Dan and Amanda all live in Hanover. In September 2014, Alison’s
pediatrician referred her to Children’s Hospital in Boston after learning
that Ali had suffered through a few months of chronic constipation. At
Children’s, the Light family learned that their precious baby girl had
cancer that started on her tailbone and metastasized to her liver, lungs,
and lymph-nodes. A few days later, the family received the more hopeful
news that Ali had germ cell yolk sac tumors. While the burden of the tumors
is significant, the Lights knew that there was treatment and a cure for
this type of pediatric cancer. This past fall, Ali had four rounds of
chemotherapy and surgery. Her prognosis is hopeful, but she has also had
some concerning blood work results the past couple of weeks.

In the meantime, friends and neighbors rallied around Ali and the Lights
this fall, providing meals, cleaning their house, running errands, and
making sure Sam was also well cared for. Amanda’s mom flew in from
Arizona for an extended visit, and the Lights, and Ali, persevered.

Knowing that the medical costs would be staggering even with insurance and
that the loss of income from having to take time off from work would be
potentially devastating for the Lights, some Hanover friends of the family
connected with an organization called Wicked Good Cause. Wicked Good Cause
is a community based organization whose mission it is to provide
philanthropic support to local South Shore Massachusetts families that have
been affected by unforeseen illness, accident, or tragedy. For more
information about Wicked Good Cause, please go to www.wickedgoodcause.org .

I am delighted to share that Wicked Good Cause will host its second annual
Winter Ball on Saturday, February 28th, 2015, and the Light Family and Ali
will be one of two recipients of their generosity. This not-to-be-missed
evening will be filled with live music, dancing, delicious food, and
auction items as the organization celebrates an evening of giving while
benefiting families who were affected by unexpected illness, accident, or
tragedy. Tickets for the event are available for $100 per person by
visiting www.wickedgoodcause.org . At this writing, the event is 60% sold
out.

If you are unable to attend the Winter Ball, but would like to make a
donation to Alison Joy Light and her family, please simply go to
http://wickedgoodcause.org/donate.html and make a PayPal donation.

Let’s rally around the Lights, our neighbors. They need us, and we have
a long-standing tradition of responding to a family in need here in
Hanover. Let’s just do it; it’s a Wicked Good Cause!

For more information about these efforts for Ali Light, please simply reply
to me at cathyhb@atotw.com .

For “Around Town on the Web”,
Cathy H-B

—
“Around Town on the Web” (“ATOTW”) has been a valued push notification
since the spring of 2004 – long before there were push notifications!

For submission guidelines and answers to frequently asked questions
about “ATOTW”, please go to http://www.atotw.com.
To search for archived “ATOTW” news, view the archive

.
If you would like to be added to this distribution list, click here

.
Please follow the link in the response e-mail to validate your
account.
