Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
\u201cAround Town on the Web\u201d (ATOTW) has a long-time history of
\nhighlighting and supporting efforts to assist Hanover residents in need. I
\nlove that ATOTW has become a cornerstone of how we connect with each other
\nas a town and as neighbors.<\/p>\n
Today I am writing to introduce you to efforts to support Alison Joy Light,
\na three year old spitfire of a toddler with never ending curiosity, guts
\nand a delightful spirit. \u201cAli\u201d, her big brother Sam, and her parents
\nDan and Amanda all live in Hanover. In September 2014, Alison\u2019s
\npediatrician referred her to Children\u2019s Hospital in Boston after learning
\nthat Ali had suffered through a few months of chronic constipation. At
\nChildren\u2019s, the Light family learned that their precious baby girl had
\ncancer that started on her tailbone and metastasized to her liver, lungs,
\nand lymph-nodes. A few days later, the family received the more hopeful
\nnews that Ali had germ cell yolk sac tumors. While the burden of the tumors
\nis significant, the Lights knew that there was treatment and a cure for
\nthis type of pediatric cancer. This past fall, Ali had four rounds of
\nchemotherapy and surgery. Her prognosis is hopeful, but she has also had
\nsome concerning blood work results the past couple of weeks.<\/p>\n
In the meantime, friends and neighbors rallied around Ali and the Lights
\nthis fall, providing meals, cleaning their house, running errands, and
\nmaking sure Sam was also well cared for. Amanda\u2019s mom flew in from
\nArizona for an extended visit, and the Lights, and Ali, persevered. <\/p>\n
Knowing that the medical costs would be staggering even with insurance and
\nthat the loss of income from having to take time off from work would be
\npotentially devastating for the Lights, some Hanover friends of the family
\nconnected with an organization called Wicked Good Cause. Wicked Good Cause
\nis a community based organization whose mission it is to provide
\nphilanthropic support to local South Shore Massachusetts families that have
\nbeen affected by unforeseen illness, accident, or tragedy. For more

I am delighted to share that Wicked Good Cause will host its second annual
\nWinter Ball on Saturday, February 28th, 2015, and the Light Family and Ali
\nwill be one of two recipients of their generosity. This not-to-be-missed
\nevening will be filled with live music, dancing, delicious food, and
\nauction items as the organization celebrates an evening of giving while
\nbenefiting families who were affected by unexpected illness, accident, or
\ntragedy. Tickets for the event are available for $100 per person by
\nvisiting www.wickedgoodcause.org . At this writing, the event is 60% sold
\nout.<\/p>\n
