A limited number of large-format anchors
are available for decoration, and will be displayed for judging by the
community at Hanover Day in June.

The “Artful Anchors” contest is being conducted by Karen Cass, chairman
of the Hanover Cultural Council, and is possible through a generous
donation from Gibson Roofs of Hanover, a major supporter of the arts in
town.

A cash prize of $200 will be awarded to the winner as part of the 10th
Annual Hanover Day Celebration on Saturday, June 20, 2015.

The anchor was chosen as the image for the contest because the town seal,
designed by James Waterman, includes an anchor to symbolize the town’s
shipbuilding past and its long history of forging anchors for the US Navy.

There are only 10 anchors available, so individuals or community groups are
encouraged to act quickly to reserve a 4’ x 4’ wooden anchor to design
and decorate in any medium they choose. The entry fee is only $25. Anchors
will be on display at Hanover Day and visitors will be able to vote for
their favorite design. Completed anchors must be delivered to the B.
Everett Hall/Sylvester Field by 9:00 a.m. on June 20 and will need to be
fitted with brackets on the back in order to be displayed at Hanover Day.
Brackets will be provided when you pick up your anchor.

Anchors are cut from special, water-resistant plywood and can be displayed
outdoors. Artists should prime all exposed surfaces of the anchor to seal
the wood and further protect the surface. All techniques and materials are
welcome, and artists are encouraged to be inventive and express themselves.
Participants can use the anchor to show town spirit, a unique group theme,
or business affiliation. All town organizations and individual artists are
welcome to enter this contest.

Artists will be encouraged to choose a prominent location in town to
display their Artful Anchors.
For more information, contact Cultural Council Chairman Karen Cass,
617-388-4427, or karencass@comcast.net.

For “Around Town on the Web”,
Cathy H-B

—
“Around Town on the Web” (“ATOTW”) has been a valued push notification
since the spring of 2004 – long before there were push notifications!

For submission guidelines and answers to frequently asked questions
about “ATOTW”, please go to http://www.atotw.com.
To search for archived “ATOTW” news, view the archive

.
If you would like to be added to this distribution list, click here

.
Please follow the link in the response e-mail to validate your
account.
