Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
A town wide contest is challenging Hanover residents, groups, and
\nbusinesses to express their local spirit as part of the \u201cArtful
\nAnchors\u201d community art project. A limited number of large-format anchors
\nare available for decoration, and will be displayed for judging by the
\ncommunity at Hanover Day in June. <\/p>\n
The \u201cArtful Anchors\u201d contest is being conducted by Karen Cass, chairman
\nof the Hanover Cultural Council, and is possible through a generous
\ndonation from Gibson Roofs of Hanover, a major supporter of the arts in
\ntown.<\/p>\n
A cash prize of $200 will be awarded to the winner as part of the 10th
\nAnnual Hanover Day Celebration on Saturday, June 20, 2015. <\/p>\n
The anchor was chosen as the image for the contest because the town seal,
\ndesigned by James Waterman, includes an anchor to symbolize the town\u2019s
\nshipbuilding past and its long history of forging anchors for the US Navy.<\/p>\n
There are only 10 anchors available, so individuals or community groups are
\nencouraged to act quickly to reserve a 4\u2019 x 4\u2019 wooden anchor to design
\nand decorate in any medium they choose. The entry fee is only $25. Anchors
\nwill be on display at Hanover Day and visitors will be able to vote for
\ntheir favorite design. Completed anchors must be delivered to the B.
\nEverett Hall\/Sylvester Field by 9:00 a.m. on June 20 and will need to be
\nfitted with brackets on the back in order to be displayed at Hanover Day.
\nBrackets will be provided when you pick up your anchor.<\/p>\n
Anchors are cut from special, water-resistant plywood and can be displayed
\noutdoors. Artists should prime all exposed surfaces of the anchor to seal
\nthe wood and further protect the surface. All techniques and materials are
\nwelcome, and artists are encouraged to be inventive and express themselves.
\nParticipants can use the anchor to show town spirit, a unique group theme,
\nor business affiliation. All town organizations and individual artists are
\nwelcome to enter this contest.<\/p>\n
Artists will be encouraged to choose a prominent location in town to
\ndisplay their Artful Anchors.
