They don\u2019t wear<br \/>\ncapes or special suits, and their badge of honor is the bandage that shows<br \/>\nthey gave the \u201cgift of life.\u201d The Red Cross encourages eligible donors<br \/>\nto become hometown heroes and answer the call of patients in need by<br \/>\ndonating blood.<\/p>\n<p>Donating blood is one of the simplest things a person can do to help save a<br \/>\npatient\u2019s life. For the hour it takes to give blood, there could be a<br \/>\nwhole community of people thankful for another birthday given to their<br \/>\nloved one.<\/p>\n<p>Upcoming blood donation opportunity:<\/p>\n<p>July 29, 2015, 2:00 p.m. \u2013 7:00 p.m. at Hanover Town Hall, 550 Hanover<br \/>\nStreet<\/p>\n<p>How to donate blood<br \/>\nSimply download the American Red Cross Blood Donor App, visit<br \/>\nredcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an<br \/>\nappointment or for more information. All blood types are needed to ensure a<br \/>\nreliable supply for patients. A blood donor card or driver\u2019s license or<br \/>\ntwo other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who<br \/>\nare 17 years of age (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at<br \/>\nleast 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate<br \/>\nblood. High school students and other donors 18 years of age and younger<br \/>\nalso have to meet certain height and weight requirements.<\/p>\n<p>About the American Red Cross<br \/>\nThe American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to<br \/>\nvictims of disasters; supplies about 40 percent of the nation\u2019s blood;<br \/>\nteaches skills that save lives; provides international humanitarian aid;<br \/>\nand supports military members and their families.
