The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline for
\norganizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support
\ncultural activities in the community. <\/p>\n
According to Council spokesperson Karen Cass, these grants can support a
\nvariety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover — including
\nexhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
\nperformances in schools, workshops and lectures. <\/p>\n
The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
\nCouncils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC
\nProgram is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation,
\nsupporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and
\nhumanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual
\nappropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which
\nthen allocates funds to each community. <\/p>\n
Over the past year, the Hanover Cultural Council distributed over $17,000
\nin grants. Previously funded projects include: The Council on Aging Holiday
\nConcert, \u201cThe Sound of Music\u201d production at Hanover High School, The
\nDinner Theater program at SSVT, \u201cPlayhouses for Humanity\u201d \u2013building
\nproject at HHS, The Nature\u2019s Classroom project at Center and Sylvester
\nSchools, several museum passes and programs at the John Curtis Library, and
\na writing workshop at the Hanover Middle School, \u201cWicked Weird Story
\nStarters\u201d, to name just a few! <\/p>\n
The FY16 Allocation to Hanover from the Mass Cultural Council is $4700, and
\nadditional funds are available, thanks to the tireless efforts of our
\nHanover Day Committee. The spectacular success of Hanover Day, our annual
\ntown celebration which features an incredible array of live entertainment,
\n150 artisans and vendors, a community art project and contest, countless
\nchildren\u2019s activities and fireworks, we are proud to give back to the
\ncommunity in the form of additional funding for worthy arts and sciences
\nprojects throughout the year! The Hanover Cultural Council is looking
\nforward to reviewing the next round of exciting proposals for 2016. <\/p>\n
