Dear fellow Hanoverians:
\nAnother grateful update from the Food Pantry!
\n\u201cThe Hanover Emergency Food Pantry would like to thank every individual,
\ngroup, organization, club, school, scout, church and business for
\nsupporting the pantry this past year. We would be lost without them.
\nIn 2015, we never experienced “bare shelves” as we have in the past. Summer
\nis slow but the postal workers food drive in May helped carry us into our
\nleanest season. We had a large number of volunteers, many of them students
\nand scouts, to help with this project. The schools have done an amazing job
\nwith their food drives. All the churches in town have kept us going
\nthroughout the year with weekly contributions. We have drop boxes at the
\nlibrary, Shaw’s and the Norwell Stop and Shop and we thank them for their
\ncontinued support. Private citizens have made very generous contributions
\nregularly. Many people buy gift cards to Shaw’s and Stop and Shop as we
\ngive our clients a card monthly. (The cards are a great help.) This past
\nyear we had small children give to the pantry in lieu of birthday gifts for
\nthemselves. We had other children run private neighborhood food drives.
\nSome ran lemonade stands where a food item was the cost of the cool summer
\ndrink. How creative! Parents have supported us by requesting pantry
\ncontributions in lieu baptism gift for newborns. Girl Scouts have run theme
\ncollections and donated their cookies. Businesses have run food drives in
\ntheir stores. Some businesses have donated a matching corporate
\ncontribution (the gift that keeps giving). All wonderful gifts.
\nLooking back over the past year and seeing all the hard work and dedication
\nof our volunteers, it is a staggering amount of hours! What a fantastic and
\ndedicated group of people we have working at the pantry. I, for one, am so
\nthankful for each and every one of them. I could not express how deeply I
\nappreciate each of them as a group and individually. I am honored to be
\nworking with all our volunteers.
\nThe pantry and volunteers wish the Town of Hanover the best holiday season
\nand the happiest of New Years ever. Thank you again for the generosity that
\nkeeps us going.”
