Walnut Hill Garden Club of Hanover will hold its traditional public plant
\nsale on Saturday, May 14, 2016 from 9:00 AM \u2013 1:00 p.m. at Riley Hall of
\nthe First Congregational Church located at 17 Silver Street (corner of
\nSilver and Hanover Streets). Co-presidents and sale organizers Teri Mallory
\nand Susan Hart report the sale will feature a large selection of plants
\nfrom member gardens, all at affordable prices. The sale will include
\ncolorful daylilies, irises, Shasta daisies, ornamental grasses, hosta,
\nastilbe and other hardy plants for shade; plus ground covers, shrubs and
\nmore. <\/p>\n
Last week Walnut Hill Garden Club members were busy potting up plants from
\nseveral member gardens. Of special note, they potted up lots of great
\ndaylily plants that were donated by daylily hybridizer Stephen Tooker of
\nScituate, who until recently kept a wonderful Daylily Society display
\ngarden. Most of these plants are LATE SEASON BLOOMING (August – September
\nas opposed to July – August). Many people have July blooming varieties so
\nthese are good additions to extend the bloom period in local gardens. In
\naddition, there will be lots of great plants for both sun and shade,
\nincluding plants from the historic Stetson House gardens.<\/p>\n
It is suggested that shoppers come early for the best selection, and it is
\nrecommended that they bring plant trays, crates and boxes to carry
\npurchases home. Visitors to the plant sale should park in the front lot of
\nRiley Hall on the corner of 139 and Silver Street.<\/p>\n
Sales proceeds will benefit Hanover beautification projects.<\/p>\n
