Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Friday, August
\n19th is the last day to register to vote in the State Primary Election
\nscheduled to be held on September 8th. The Registrar\u2019s Office will be
\nopen from 8:00 a.m. \u2013 8:00 p.m. on Friday the 19th of August.<\/p>\n
Thanks to new legislation that went into effect August 1st, 2016, any
\nHanover citizen who is sixteen years of age or older is eligible to
\nregister to vote. Citizens who will be eighteen on or before Election Day,
\nSeptember 8th, 2016 will then be eligible to actually vote. Once registered
\nand 18 years of age, individuals will be eligible to vote in all elections
\nthereafter, including the State (Presidential) Election in November.<\/p>\n
Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
\nstatus on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
\nhere: https:\/\/www.sec.state.ma.us\/OVR . If residents choose to register
\nby mail they should download the \u201cMassachusetts Mail-In Voter
\nRegistration Form\u201d found here:
\nhttp:\/\/www.sec.state.ma.us\/ele\/eleifv\/howreg.htm and mail the completed
\nform to the Hanover Town Clerk\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
If voters wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
\nconvenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe State Primary Election is the precursor to the big State Election in
\nNovember, but it features a number of important races, including one for
\nState Representative on the Democratic side and one for Representative in
\nCongress on the Republican side,\u201d said Harder-Bernier. \u201cWith the new
\nlegislation that allows teenagers to register to vote beginning at age
\nsixteen, even though they still cannot vote until they are eighteen, I hope
\ntheir interest is piqued and they start to become engaged in the election
\nprocess. It does not get much better than a Presidential Election year to
\nbecome excited about this process!\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
