Beginning in 1908, Gleason used a $2 Brownie box camera to<br \/>\nphotograph his family, neighbors, and clients in Hanover and the<br \/>\nsurrounding towns. He traveled first with a brightly painted green and<br \/>\nyellow wagon and then on a bicycle, taking photos as he went. Gleason put<br \/>\nhis photographs into scrapbooks and carefully labeled each person and<br \/>\nscene, creating a unique and fascinating source for local history. Views of<br \/>\nHanover, Norwell, Pembroke, Marshfield, and Scituate are featured in the<br \/>\nscrapbooks, along with his stories, commentary, and humor.<\/p>\n<p>The Hanover Historical Society has conserved eleven of the scrapbooks and<br \/>\nis now involved in a digitization and transcribing project to make these<br \/>\navailable to the public. Join the Historical Society on Saturday, August<br \/>\n20th, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. to view the scrapbooks and learn more about<br \/>\nthe project.<br \/>\nSee the South Shore as Charlie Gleason saw it a century ago. <\/p>\n<p>For more information contact the Hanover Historical Society, at P.O.
