\nthe fourth of the four candidates for Selectman, Christopher Carney. To

Please list relevant experience (education, vocation, etc.) you feel will
\nbe useful in the office you are seeking.<\/p>\n
A business owner with 30+ years\u2019 experience, I currently employ over 150
\nhardworking people. I know how business owners think and what it will take
\nto bring them to Route 53 and our commercial areas. The commercial
\ndevelopment of Route 53 critically important to lowering our residential
\ntax rate and relieving the financial burden our residents are feeling,
\nespecially the elderly. My experience working with the Plymouth County
\nSheriff\u2019s Department will help me work closely with our police and fire
\ndepartments. Through my experience in local, commercial and residential
\nconstruction, I\u2019ve overseen the building of roads, waterways and sewer
\nsystems which will help me work closely with our town planning and zoning
\nboards. Like most people reading this, I also pay taxes in Hanover, which
\nI\u2019m happy to do, but want to make sure that the taxes we pay are spent
\nproperly and responsibly. <\/p>\n
What are the major issues confronting the town which involve your office?
\nPlease express your opinion on these issues and how you propose to deal
\nwith them.<\/p>\n
The commercial expansion of Route 53 is critical if we want to reduce the
\nresidential tax burden we\u2019re all feeling right now. I support the Tax
\nIncrement Financing (TIF) agreement with the new owners of the mall and am
\nconfident that with creative, collective, outside the box thinking the
\nexpansion can happen sooner rather than later and exceed all expectations.
\nWe need housing in Hanover that everyone can afford, especially our
\nelderly. Property taxes are too high for our elderly to afford and when I
\nhear people say, \u201cThey can sell\u201d, my response is always the same:
\n\u201cThey have no place to go!\u201d We need affordable senior housing in
\nHanover and I\u2019ll work to make that a reality. My background in
\nconstruction project management will help. It\u2019s also imperative that we
\nstreamline our processes and make our local government more transparent.
\nOur town website is great, but almost impossible for the average person
\nnavigate, making it difficult to know when and where local boards are
\nmeeting and what will be on the agenda for a particular meeting. The
\ninformation is there but difficult to find. I\u2019ll work to streamline the
\nprocess. Of course I would always encourage ANY resident of Hanover to call
\nme anytime on my personal cell number above or by email at
\nredcarney@aol.com with questions. Finally, it\u2019s inexcusable that many of
\nour residents deal with water that isn\u2019t clean. Residents have been
\ncomplaining about it for years now and its inexcusable that for any reason
\nother than hydrant flushing (which is posted) that our residents can\u2019t
\nrely on the town to provide clean drinking water. If the town expects you
\nto pay for it, you should expect it to be clean. If you live in the areas
\nof town affected by brown water, know that I will always have your back. <\/p>\n
Why are you running for this office?<\/p>\n
At this point in life my kids are older and I have the time to give back to
\nthe community that\u2019s given my family so much. Hanover has accomplished so
\nmuch over the years through the hard work and efforts by town employees,
\nboard members and volunteers and really is in a position to flourish. I\u2019m
\nconfident that through my experience, both as a 15 year resident of the
\ntown and business owner, that I will serve the residents of this town with
\npride and if given the opportunity, will make them proud. <\/p>\n
