Proposals for community-oriented arts, humanities, and science programs are
\ndue October 15, 2017!<\/p>\n
The Hanover Cultural Council has set an October 15 postmark deadline for
\norganizations, schools and individuals to apply for grants that support
\ncultural activities in the community. <\/p>\n
According to Council spokesperson Karen Cass, “these grants can support a
\nvariety of artistic projects and activities in Hanover — including
\nexhibits, festivals, field trips, short-term artist residencies or
\nperformances in schools, workshops and lectures”. <\/p>\n
The Hanover Cultural Council is part of a network of 329 Local Cultural
\nCouncils serving all 351 cities and towns in the Commonwealth. The LCC
\nProgram is the largest grassroots cultural funding network in the nation,
\nsupporting thousands of community-based projects in the arts, sciences and
\nhumanities every year. The state legislature provides an annual
\nappropriation to the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency, which
\nthen allocates funds to each community. <\/p>\n
This year, the Hanover Cultural Council will distribute about $25,000 in
\ngrants. Previously funded projects include: The Summer Concert Series at
\nForge Pond Park in collaboration with the Parks and Recreation Department,
\nThe Drama Club Dinner Theater & \u201cBrass Lantern After Dark\u201d programs at
\nSSVT, funding for a wireless microphone system for the Hanover Performing
\nArts Company, The Bats and Bat Houses project at Center and Sylvester
\nSchools, Pastel Painting Workshop, \u201cJust For TEENS\u201d Art Exhibit,
\nseveral museum passes and children\u2019s programs at the John Curtis Library,
\nsponsorship of traffic island beautification projects by the Hanover Garden
\nClub, Mass Audubon and S.S. Natural Science Center Community projects, to
\nname just a few! <\/p>\n
The FY18 Allocation to Hanover from the Mass Cultural Council has not been
\nofficially announced yet, but will be made available at the end of
\nSeptember, and additional funds are available, thanks to the tireless
\nefforts of our Hanover Day Committee. The success of Hanover Day, our
\nannual town celebration which features an incredible array of live
\nentertainment, carnival rides, artisans and vendors, a community art
\nproject, juried art exhibit, anchor art contest, 3 v. 3 Basketball
\nTournament, countless children\u2019s activities and culminating in a
\nspectacular fireworks display allows us to give back to the community in
\nthe form of grants for worthy arts, science and humanities projects
\nthroughout the year!<\/p>\n
