Her book is for<br \/>\nsale and she will autograph them upon request.  <\/p>\n<p>Tuesday, January 9, 2018<br \/>\n7:00-8:30pm<br \/>\nSCOTT, AMUNDSEN, AND SHACKLETON: RACE TO THE POLE<br \/>\nIn 1900 Antarctica represented the last major unclaimed area of the world.<br \/>\nGreat Britain would launch an expedition to explore and claim this hostile<br \/>\nregion for her Empire. A young Royal Navy officer, Robert Falcon Scott, was<br \/>\nchosen to head this mission. Scott would fail in his attempt to reach the<br \/>\nPole but in death, would soar in English status as a &#8220;True, noble, gallant<br \/>\nEnglishman&#8221;. Others including Amundsen and Shackleton would risk their<br \/>\nlives to reach the pole. Why would they risk so much&#8230;for some it was the<br \/>\nhope of fame and glory. For others, it was to serve the Empire. Join local<br \/>\nhistorian, Bob Begin for another entertaining evening at the library. <\/p>\n<p>Sunday, January 28&#8212;SAVE THE DATE!<br \/>\n3:00-4:15pm<br \/>\nSWING FEVER CONCERT<br \/>\nGet your toes tapping as Steve Rudolph\u2019s Swing Fever Trio applies its<br \/>\ndistinctive jazz styling to the music of George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke<br \/>\nEllington and much more. It\u2019s a joyous sampling of the best of American<br \/>\npopular music of the \u201830s, \u201840s and \u201850s. Pianist\/vocalist Steve<br \/>\nRudolph, founder of the Swing Fever Trio, has performed extensively for<br \/>\nover 40 years both in the United States and in Europe in venues ranging<br \/>\nfrom jazz clubs to churches. Steve is joined by Alan Trebat on drums and<br \/>\nMichael Ball on Bass. The movie<br \/>\nstars Salma Hayek, John Lithgow, and Chloe Sevigny.<\/p>\n<p>CHILDRENS PROGRAMS:<\/p>\n<p>Monday, December 18<br \/>\n10:15-10:45am<br \/>\nPICTURE BOOK TIME<br \/>\nStory time for three and four-year-olds, without adults.<\/p>\n<p>Monday, December 18<br \/>\n11:00-11:30am<br \/>\nPATTYCAKE<br \/>\nLap-sit story time for babies ranging from newborn to 17 months, with a<br \/>\nparent or caregiver.<\/p>\n<p>Tuesdays, December 19 and 26<br \/>\n4:00-5:00pm<br \/>\nLEGO\/DOMINO DAY<br \/>\nChildren four and older are welcome to drop-in and build and play with Lego<br \/>\nand dominoes for an hour.  Lego creations will be put on display in the<br \/>\nchildren&#8217;s room.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesdays, December 20 and 27<br \/>\n10:15-10:45am<br \/>\nTODDLER TIME<br \/>\nStory time for children 18 to 35 months with a parent or caregiver.  Some<br \/>\nof the materials we may use include picture books, songs, flannel board<br \/>\nstories, and puppets.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday, December 23<br \/>\n11:00-noon<br \/>\nDesign your own art and craft projects using a wide variety of provided<br \/>\nmaterials at KIDS CRAZY CRAFT TIME.  An example of a fall-themed craft will<br \/>\nbe on hand if children wish to follow it, but we encourage inventiveness<br \/>\nand individuality.  Get creative and go wild!  For all ages.<\/p>\n<p>Monday, January 8<br \/>\n5:30-6:30pm<br \/>\nCHESS CLUB FOR KIDS<br \/>\nAre your kids interested in playing chess or learning to play? If so, join<br \/>\nthis new group on the first Monday of each month from 5:30 &#8211; 6:30 p.m. at<br \/>\nthe library. It will be interactive &#8211; with parents and kids helping each<br \/>\nother to learn to play, as well as more experienced players having a chance<br \/>\nto play against one another. Bring your chess set if you have one, but<br \/>\nthere will be some extras there as well. Dates are as follows: December 4,<br \/>\nJanuary 8 (since the first Monday is a holiday), February 5, March 5, April<br \/>\n2, May 7 and June 4. At that time the group can decide if they should<br \/>\ncontinue through the summer or wait and pick up next fall.
