Hanover Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier announced that Wednesday,
\nAugust 15th is the last day to register to vote in the State Primary
\nElection. The Registrar\u2019s\/Town Clerk’s Office will be open from 8:00
\na.m. \u2013 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday the 15th.<\/p>\n
Thanks to new legislation that went into effect in 2016, any Hanover
\ncitizen who is sixteen years of age or older is eligible to register to
\nvote. Citizens who will be eighteen on or before Election Day, September
\n4th, 2018 will then be eligible to actually vote. Once registered and 18
\nyears of age, individuals will be eligible to vote in all elections
\nthereafter, including the State (Gubernatorial) Election in November.<\/p>\n
Citizens of Hanover may conveniently register to vote or change their party
\nstatus on-line, by mail or in person. The link for on-line registration is
\nhere: https:\/\/www.sec.state.ma.us\/OVR . If residents choose to register
\nby mail they should download the \u201cMassachusetts Mail-In Voter
\nRegistration Form\u201d found here:
\nhttp:\/\/www.sec.state.ma.us\/ele\/eleifv\/howreg.htm and mail the completed
\nform to the Hanover Town Clerk\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
If residents wish to register to vote in person, they may do so at two
\nconvenient locations: Hanover Town Hall or the Registry of Motor Vehicles.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe State Primary Election is the precursor to the larger State Election
\nin November, but it nevertheless features a number of interesting
\nelections,\u201d said Harder-Bernier. \u201cThe Republican ballot has races for
\nGovernor, Senator in Congress, and Attorney General. There are also
\ncontested races on the Democratic ballot for Governor and State Secretary,
\namong others. The Libertarians fielded just one candidate for their newly
\ncreated party, but I expect two unusual write-in campaigns on the
\nDemocratic ballot to draw interest.\u201d<\/p>\n
