They can simply handwrite the
name of the candidate and fill in the oval to the right of the written-in
name. If they choose to use a sticker, write-in campaign stickers need to
be applied securely so they don’t jam the machines, and they cannot cover
the black “timing marks” (lines) on the sides of the ballot, or the
ballot may have to be re-voted or hand-counted. Additionally, anyone who
brings a sticker sheet into the polls should be bringing the remainder of
the mailing out of the booths with them; no refuse should be left behind
that could possibly influence another voter. Finally, a candidate of
course will want a sticker applied to the correct office so they get the
votes they need; I will want them applied to the correct office because it
will prolong our counting later that evening if they are applied
incorrectly!”

Any voter wishing to vote for a write-in candidate may do so in any of the
races on the ballot. When the write-in votes are counted at the end of the
night, election workers try to determine the intent of the voter to the
best of their ability and hand-tally the results that follow, but it is
time consuming, so please understand that results may be delayed. The
State Primary Election is Tuesday, September 4th, 2018. The polls are open
at Hanover High School from 7:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. If you have questions
about write-in votes or any other matter related to the election, feel free
to contact Town Clerk Catherine Harder-Bernier at
Catherine.harderbernier@hanover-ma.gov or (781) 826-5000 x1079.

For “Around Town on the Web”,
Cathy H-B

—
“Around Town on the Web” (“ATOTW”) has been a valued push notification
since the spring of 2004 – long before there were push notifications!

For submission guidelines and answers to frequently asked questions about
“ATOTW”, please go to http://www.atotw.com.
To search for archived “ATOTW” news, view the archive

.
If you would like to be added to this distribution list, click here

.
Please follow the link in the response e-mail to validate your account.
