{"id":3356,"date":"2019-04-03T16:47:28","date_gmt":"2019-04-03T20:47:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=3356"},"modified":"2019-04-03T16:47:28","modified_gmt":"2019-04-03T20:47:28","slug":"vacation-week-music-program-at-the-john-curtis-library","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/atotw.com\/archive\/?p=3356","title":{"rendered":"Vacation Week Music Program at the John Curtis Library"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n<p>Vacation Week Music Program at the John Curtis Library<\/p>\n<p>David Coffin, a musician, singer, storyteller, educator and maritime<br \/>\nspecialist, will present \u201cLife At Sea:  A Voyage In Song\u201d at the<br \/>\nlibrary on Tuesday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m.  The musical program recreates a<br \/>\nvoyage on an old Nantucket whaling ship, with the audience members acting<br \/>\nas the ship\u2019s crew.  Mr. Coffin will lead the audience in singing sea<br \/>\nchanteys, \u201choisting the sails\u201d, and taking part in other shipboard<br \/>\nactivities.  Playing the concertina and other instruments, he is<br \/>\nparticularly skilled at getting a whole audience singing.  There will also<br \/>\nbe a special appearance by his friend Sarafina, a limberjack. (What is<br \/>\nthat? Come to the show and find out!)  The program is very interactive,<br \/>\nfull of humor, and informative as well as entertaining.  <\/p>\n<p>Mr. Coffin is a descendant of the Nantucket Coffins, one of the most<br \/>\nprominent American seafaring families.   He is a multitalented performer<br \/>\nwho has been singing and playing music at hundreds of venues all over the<br \/>\ncountry for more than 30 years.  He regularly presents educational programs<br \/>\nat schools around New England.  Since 1991 he has been Master of Ceremonies<br \/>\nfor the Christmas Revels in Cambridge, MA.  Well-known storyteller Jay<br \/>\nO\u2019Callahan has said of him, \u201cDavid Coffin is a man of presence, humor<br \/>\nand magical abilities.  He is a musician, singer and storyteller whose<br \/>\nenthusiasm transforms an audience.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The program is recommended for families with children in kindergarten and<br \/>\nolder, and adults without children are also welcome to attend.  They hope<br \/>\nto attract a multigenerational audience, as anyone who likes music and<br \/>\nhistory can enjoy this presentation.
