The John Curtis Free Library has teamed up with the Boston Bruins to
\nparticipate in the 13th annual Boston Bruins PJ Drive to benefit Department
\nof Children and Families\u2019 (DCF) Wonderfund and Cradles to Crayons. The PJ
\nDrive\u2019s goal is to collect 13,000 pairs of new pajamas. Many of the
\npajamas donated go to local DCF offices in the area in which they were
\ncollected, benefitting local kids and teens. <\/p>\n
The PJ Drive runs now through March 15. The library will be collecting new
\npairs of pajamas for babies, children and teens. <\/p>\n
Bruins forward P.J. Axelsson and his wife, Siw, started the PJ drive during
\nthe Boston Bruins 2007-2008 season as a way to give back to their
\ncommunity. The couple collected 1,600 pairs of pajamas for Cradles to
\nCrayons which connects with social service agencies across the state to
\nidentify specific children in need. Last year, libraries from across the
\nCommonwealth collected 13,022 new pairs of pajamas, a new record for the
\ndrive. In total, over 20,000 pairs of pajamas were collected by 251 groups,
\n136 of which were libraries.<\/p>\n
The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) works with the
\nBoston Bruins to coordinate library participation in the drive. Libraries
\nfrom around the state use the Massachusetts Library System\u2019s delivery
\nservice, typically used to send books and other library materials, to send
\ntheir PJs to area collection locations which increases libraries\u2019 ability
\nto participate in the drive.<\/p>\n
The collection box for pajamas is located in the library\u2019s main entrance
