Playful engineers at John Curtis Library<\/p>\n

In this hands-on, STEM-focused workshop, children design, build, test, and
\nplay with Rube Goldberg “machines\u201d, plus domino constructions, exploding
\npopsicle-stick snakes, and other awesome engineering explorations.
\nTeaching artist and engineering enthusiast Jay Mankita brings lots of
\nmaterials to work with, including dominoes, wood blocks, string, chain,
\npulleys, elastics, tinker toys, K\u2019nex, Lego, tracks, ping-pong balls,
\nclamps, connectors, bases, dowels, and magnets.<\/p>\n
Children will have a chance to create various fun chain reactions,
\nconnecting focused play with serious science. Participants learn through
\ndemonstration and play, exploring basic force and motion physics, as they
\nbuild with common toys and other ordinary materials. <\/p>\n
The program is best for children in kindergarten and up. Younger children
\nmay participate if closely supervised by a caregiver. <\/p>\n
The program is funded by the Friends of the Library.<\/p>\n
