I have hesitated to weigh in with updates regarding the impact of COVID-19
\non our town because they seem to change daily, and sometimes within hours.
\nAnd, “Around Town on the Web”, while beloved, is older technology – that
\ntakes 12 hours for one e-blast to be sent. That being said, I thought you
\nmight appreciate an overview of some of the precautions that have been
\ntaken and the related impacts to your daily schedule.<\/p>\n
The Town of Hanover and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have declared a
\nstate of emergency, and gatherings of over 250 people have been banned.<\/p>\n
Hanover Schools announced Thursday that they would be closed on Friday, and
\nthen Friday they announced that they would be closed for two weeks – up
\nthrough and including March 27th. I am sad for the HHS Hockey team
\nregarding their quest for the Garden that has been cancelled, but I hope
\nthey hold their heads high as they wear the “Co-champion” crown. They
\nearned it! Spring sports have been pushed back to March 30th, at least.<\/p>\n
The Hanover Senior Center closed Friday for an indefinite period of time.
\nIn a statement, the good folks at the Council on Aging stated: “We are
\n100% committed to serving our senior population during this time of crisis;
\nto that end, the entire Community Services staff will be providing
\ntransportation, delivering Meals on Wheels, making home visits, phone
\ncalls, and house checks, and will hold appointments as needed at the COA
\nbuilding.”<\/p>\n
The Hanover John Curtis Library has also been closed as of 2:00 p.m.
\nSaturday, also for an indefinite period of time. The Library has

\n, and is assessing how to make at least some services available beginning
\nnext week.<\/p>\n
As of this writing (Saturday at 3:45 p.m.), Town Hall will be open on
\nMonday. As your Town Clerk, I look forward to continuing to serve you by
\nphone, e-mail and in-person. I know my colleagues feel the same. We are
\nhere for you. Please don’t mind if we practice “social distancing” – and
\nstay 6 feet away from you rather than shake your hand. You should do the
\nsame when you are out in public. The rabies vaccination clinic, previously
\nscheduled for 3\/21, has been postponed. We are assessing the situation and
\nour options regarding Town Meeting on May 4th and the Town Election on May
\n9th.<\/p>\n
Be safe, be smart, and take care of your loved ones, Hanover. Check on
\nyour neighbors; who’s home, who’s not well? Who should you reach out to
\nafter reading this e-mail? Not sure? Donate to the Hanover Food Pantry –
\nthere are people staying home and losing wages who will need extra support.
