Saturday (tomorrow as I write this) will be a busy day in
\nHanover.  Let’s hope the weather holds!  Here are some
\nhighlights regarding three big events that will help us to kick off vacation
\nweek just right!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

HYAA softball playing girls are reminded about the
\nre-scheduled Softball Opening
\nDay<\/span><\/b> – now set to be held this Saturday (instead of during last
\nweek’s rain) at B. Everett Hall Field.  Contact your coach for
\ndetails regarding your team’s arrival time.<\/p>\n

SSYMCA Healthy Kids Day<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Exhibits<\/span><\/b>.  South Shore
\nRecycling Cooperative (municipal recycling programs), BigBelly Solar, Go Green
\nGlobal Recycling, Covanta SEMASS (mercury reduction), Mass Recycles Paper,
\nSustainable South Shore, the Green Connection, and the North and South River
\nWatershed Association (Greenscapes), to name a few.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Demonstrati ons<\/span><\/b>.  The South
\nShore Natural Science center will bring their resident Owl for visits at 10 am
\nand 1:30 pm at Center Court.  Learn how to compost your kitchen scraps,
\nplant and care for a baby tree, and make tote bags, iPod cases, and more from
\nplastic shopping bags.    <\/span><\/p>\n

“What
\nI can do to Save the Planet”<\/b> .  Hundreds of area students
\nsubmit essays in a contest sponsored by Hanover Mall, Community Newspaper
\nCompany and the Patriot Ledger.  The Mall will display all entries, and
\ngive a book to every entrant that comes to the event. <\/span><\/p>\n

“What
\nI can do to Save the Planet”<\/b> Awards Ceremony<\/b> at 1:00 p.m.<\/b>
\nin Center Court. <\/span><\/p>\n

Teen
\nstar McKenzie Rae<\/b> will perform songs from her new album at noon and 3:00
\np.m. in Center Court.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lisa
\nand her Big Puppet Friends<\/span><\/b> will put on  2 musical shows about saving the
\nenvironment at 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. at Center Court.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meet
\nThe Bean<\/b>, mascot for Beantown Toys.<\/span><\/p>\n

  <\/span><\/p>\n

MALL
\nRETAILERS:<\/span><\/i><\/b> <\/span><\/p>\n

Radio
\nShack – Dispose of rechargeable batteries as well as collecting used cell
\nphones and donate to battered women’s shelters. <\/span><\/p>\n

Foot
\nLocker – Collecting old athletic shoes of any brand for Nike’s
\n“Reuse-A-Shoe” program.  Shoes are transformed into sports surfaces
\nand playgrounds.<\/span><\/p>\n

Several
\nMall retailers will be showcasing their environmentally preferable products and
\npractices, and restaurants will be sampling products throughout the day. Look
\nfor the Earth Day flags. <\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

MALL
\nPARKING LOT RECYCLING:<\/span><\/i><\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

De-clutter
\nyour closets and files, and “re-purpose” unwanted items. 
\nProceeds from some collections* will support the South Shore Recycling
\nCooperative, too.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Bring
\nthe following items to the Rockland Bank ATM parking lot from 11:00 a.m. –
\n3:00 p.m.<\/b> for re-use and recycling:<\/span><\/p>\n

\nBooks<\/b>: books, CDs, DVD, VHS tapes (please, no encyclopedias or magazines)<\/span><\/p>\n

\nState Textile<\/b>: clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, sheets and towels, small
\nrugs<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>Shred
\nKing<\/span><\/b>:
\ndocuments shredded on site.  First box at no charge, each additional box @
\n$5.00 (no binders or large clips, please).<\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/span>EOMS<\/span> <\/b>:  TVs,
\ncomputer monitors @$5.00, other electronics (CPUs, keyboards, VCRs, etc.) no
\ncharge.<\/span><\/p>\n
