Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
On Tuesday, May 4th, at the Hanover Annual Town Meeting, the residents of
\nHanover unanimously voted to approve the use of $250,000 in Community
\nPreservation Act (CPA) funds to help save Sylvester Field. Kudos to Open
\nSpace Committee co-chair Hal Thomas for his outstanding presentation of the
\nproject to Town Meeting. Thanks also to Hanover Historical Commission
\nChair Peter Johnson for his informative presentation evoking the Field\u2019s
\nrich history. <\/p>\n
The Town of Hanover, as project partner, will be purchasing the
\nConservation Restriction (\u201cCR\u201d) on the Field with the CPA funds. The
\nTown-held CR over the Field will allow for a range of passive recreational
\nactivities such as hiking and cross-country skiing and will include
\nprovisions allowing for a trailhead parking area. The CR will also allow
\nfor habitat management, improvement, and restoration, as well as the
\nmaintenance of the stone wall that is such a prominent feature of its road
\nfrontage which will be carried out by Wildlands Trust. <\/p>\n
Wildlands Trust, the regional land trust for southeastern Massachusetts,
\nhas been aggressively fundraising in the community, headed up by a
\ndedicated team of residents to preserve the Field, one of Hanover\u2019s most
\nbeloved and iconic landscapes.<\/p>\n
Thank you to all those community donors and the Hanover Capital Campaign
\nCommittee who have supported the project thus far. The Hanover Capital
\nCampaign Committee, doing a great job leading the local fundraising with
\nWildlands Trust, consists of Chairman Caleb Estabrooks, Peter Finnegan,
\nMarilyn Hartney, Dan Jones, Maura Longueil, Anne and Tim Porter, Hal
\nThomas, Peter and Paula Tyack, Sandra Moll, Cindy Newton, Jane Estabrooks,
\nand Julia Traggorth.<\/p>\n
There\u2019s still an opportunity for new donors to donate to help raise the
\nlast $60,000 needed to meet the community fundraising target of $150,000.
\nA substantial match opportunity for gifts: 2 to 1 for gifts $500 and under
\nand 1 to 1 for gifts from $5,000 to $501 has been offered by a generous

\u201cWe have a one-time opportunity to preserve the field,\u201d said Karen
\nGrey, Wildlands Trust President. \u201cThis is our first fundraising effort

\ninvolved with,\u201d said Grey. \u201cWe fully appreciate how important this
