Distance & Direction: Surveying Hanover & the Commonwealth in 1795
\nMonday, November 15th at 7:00 p.m.
\nThe John Curtis Free Library will be joined by Stephen O\u2019Neill, the
\nExecutive Director of the Hanover Historical Society, as he delves into how
\ntown lines were established. Did you know that In 1794, the Massachusetts
\nGeneral Court ordered every town in the Commonwealth to conduct a survey of
\nboundaries? Each survey map created was a unique, hand-drawn map, listing
\nnatural features, roads, and mills. Explore how the surveys were conducted
\nusing surveyor\u2019s compasses and chains to measure out boundaries, and the
\nimplications of those surveys today. See an original surveyor\u2019s compass,
\nboundary book for Hanover, and learn how to measure in 18th Century rods,
\nlinks, and chains. Examples of the maps for the towns of Hanover, Boston,
\nand the North River towns will be examined to show the artistry of the
\nskill that went into their creation. Please register here:

Teen Taco Tuesday
\nTuesday, November 16th at 7:00 p.m.
\nNovember 16th is Teen Taco Tuesday at the John Curtis Library! Join the
\nlibrary for a taco buffet – hard shell, soft shell, corn chips – beef or
\nchicken – you name it! This is a teen program for ages 12-18. Please
\nrespect the age restrictions. Please register to reserve your spot!

Song Writing Clinic (Three Part Series)
\nBegins November 30th at 7:00 p.m.
\nThe Library is hosting a three part Song Writing Clinic with Stephen
\nMacDonald. Meetings will be held on Tuesday nights, November 30th, December
\n7th, and December 14th at 7:00 p.m. Please register for all three sessions.
