Those of you who know me know that I try really hard to keep my work and
\npersonal lives separate. “Around Town on the Web” has always been a
\nvoluntary labor of love, started in 2004, and long before I became your
\nTown Clerk in 2013. But there are days and times when my worlds collide
\nfor the greater good, and today was one of those days. Hence, this
\ne-blast.<\/p>\n
A woman very shyly came to my work counter this afternoon. When I realized
\nshe was there, I of course asked her how I could help her. My assistant
\nwas out today, and there was no one else around, but she nevertheless said,
\n“could you come closer?”. We’ve been crazy busy in my office over the past
\nfew months due to the election, so it was a rare moment with a singular
\nresident for me. I gladly stepped forward. As it turns out, she had heard
\na rumor about a new rental assistance program that the town had just
\nstarted, and she wanted more information, but she didn’t want anyone to
\nknow that she was asking. I vaguely remembered reading something in the
\nmidst of running the election, but I knew next to nothing, other than it
\nsounded familiar. She clearly wanted our conversation to stay
\nconfidential, so I dug in to see what I could find.<\/p>\n
A little bit of digging on the Town’s website and a discussion with the
\nTown Manager and his assistant later, and I am delighted to share the
\nfollowing information with ATOTW readers! Long before working for the
\nTown, I worked for the Pine Street Inn in Boston, and this program sounds a
\nlittle like the rental assistance programs we used to offer our guests. I
\nam thrilled that the members of the Affordable Housing Trust, Town Finance
\nDirector, Community Services Director and Town Manager have recognized that
\nthe extraordinary cost of housing in Hanover is not just a big city
\nproblem. <\/p>\n
