Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Hanover’s Annual Town Meeting ended this evening after
\nconsidering and debating over 35 articles.  One of the first orders of
\nbusiness was the reconsideration of Article 38 – the proposed amendment
\nof the Zoning By-law to add a new subsection governing fences for
\nlivestock.  Town Meeting agreed to re-consider the issue by a narrow
\nmargin, but then overwhelmingly voted to make requests for lesser than 20 foot
\nsetbacks the authority of the Zoning Board of Appeals rather than just that of
\nthe Board of Health.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A series of articles concerning the “Planned Shopping
\nDistrict” – the Hanover Mall – were all passed, thereby
\ngiving the Mall additional flexibility to expand within its existing
\nboundaries.  These votes in favor of supporting our commercial tax base
\nstood in stark contrast to the long list of requested capital improvements that
\nthe Town could simply not fund in these economic conditions.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After much debate prior to Town Meeting, rather than repair
\nor remove the Hackett’s Pond Dam, Town Meeting decided to refer the
\narticle back for further study and created a committee appointed by the
\nSelectmen to do so.  <\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Another one for the record books!  And the good news is
\nthat we also voted $45,000 to preserve those record books (dating back to 1727)
\n– thanks to the Community Preservation Fund.  J<\/span>  Special thanks to the members of
\nthe Advisory Committee for their long hours and incredible devotion to the
\nreview of the issues before us.  Your work makes Town Meeting work.<\/p>\n
