The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee is pleased to
\nannounce that the 2023 Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award recipient
\nMary Anne Cirino will be honored at a reception to be held on Sunday, April
\n30, 2023. The community is invited to attend.<\/p>\n
Please join the Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee, Mary
\nAnne, and her family and friends for this reception in Mary Anne\u2019s honor
\nat the Hanover Senior Center, located at 665 Center Street in Hanover from
\n1:00 p.m. \u2013 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30th, 2023. A light luncheon will
\nbe served.<\/p>\n
Born and raised on the North Shore, Mary Anne went to Massachusetts General
\nHospital School of Nursing and was the president of her class when she
\ngraduated with her R.N. in 1964. She married Bob in 1965 and they began
\nraising their daughters Julie, Kristine and Susanne in New Jersey and
\nPennsylvania while Bob was in the Navy. Ever flexible, Mary Anne worked in
\nthe OR, on a Med. Surg. floor, and in an ICU during that time. <\/p>\n
Mary Anne and Bob built their house in Hanover in 1975 after Bob was
\nstationed at the South Weymouth Naval Air Station. Early on, Mary Anne was
\na Girl Scout leader in Hanover for ten years. Mary Anne simultaneously
\ninitially worked in pediatrics at the South Shore Medical Center for nine
\nyears and was a part of the initial success of that growing practice that
\nwas founded by local Hanover and Norwell doctors. She became active in the
\nHanover Woman\u2019s Club Jrs. in the early 1980\u2019s and went on to become
\ntheir President in 1990. Thanks to her leadership, and the support of so
\nmany others, the Woman\u2019s Club and the Hanover five churches founded the
\nHanover Food Pantry during her tenure as President. In the meantime, in
\n1987, Mary Anne took a job in a then relatively new field with Commonwealth
\nHematology and Oncology and remained an oncology nurse for the rest of her
\ncareer until her retirement in 2016. Mary Anne remains active in the
\nWoman\u2019s Club, Jrs. as she has been for the past 4 decades, and with the
\nHanover Food Pantry for the past 3 decades. She joined the Walnut Hill
\nGarden Club in 2011 and wishes that she joined earlier! Additionally, Mary
\nAnne serves the Alumni Association of the Massachusetts General Hospital
\nSchool of Nursing as her Class Agent.<\/p>\n
The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award is presented to an individual
\nwho best exemplifies the spirit of Hanover by voluntarily giving selflessly
\nof their time, energy and talent to the Town and its citizens thus
\nenriching our lives, fostering a true sense of community and inspiring us
\nall to a higher level of service.<\/p>\n
Past recipients of the Award include Mrs. Virginia Szejnar, Mrs. Barbara
\nBarker (-Kemp), Mr. Richard \u201cDick\u201d Eaton, Mrs. Jean Migre, Mrs. Lois
\nVan Doren, Mr. John Thomson, Mrs. Barbara Itz, Ms. Catherine
\nHarder-Bernier, Mrs. Joanne B. Cure, Mr. Harold (Hal) D. Thomas, Mr. Roger
\nA. Leslie, Sr., Mrs. Judy Grecco, Mr. James Gallant, Mr. Ray Miller, and
\nMr. Les Molyneaux.<\/p>\n
Receipt of the Award is commemorated by this reception and by having the
\nrecipient\u2019s name inscribed on a perpetual plaque which is prominently
\ndisplayed in the foyer of the Town Hall. Please join the community of
\nHanover at the reception on Sunday, April 30th, 2023.<\/p>\n
