The community is invited to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Please join the Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award Committee, Mary<br \/>\nAnne, and her family and friends for this reception in Mary Anne\u2019s honor<br \/>\nat the Hanover Senior Center, located at 665 Center Street in Hanover from<br \/>\n1:00 p.m. \u2013 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 30th, 2023.  A light luncheon will<br \/>\nbe served.<\/p>\n<p>Born and raised on the North Shore, Mary Anne went to Massachusetts General<br \/>\nHospital School of Nursing and was the president of her class when she<br \/>\ngraduated with her R.N. in 1964.  She married Bob in 1965 and they began<br \/>\nraising their daughters Julie, Kristine and Susanne in New Jersey and<br \/>\nPennsylvania while Bob was in the Navy.  Ever flexible, Mary Anne worked in<br \/>\nthe OR, on a Med. Surg. floor, and in an ICU during that time.  <\/p>\n<p>Mary Anne and Bob built their house in Hanover in 1975 after Bob was<br \/>\nstationed at the South Weymouth Naval Air Station. Early on, Mary Anne was<br \/>\na Girl Scout leader in Hanover for ten years.  Mary Anne simultaneously<br \/>\ninitially worked in pediatrics at the South Shore Medical Center for nine<br \/>\nyears and was a part of the initial success of that growing practice that<br \/>\nwas founded by local Hanover and Norwell doctors. She became active in the<br \/>\nHanover Woman\u2019s Club Jrs. in the early 1980\u2019s and went on to become<br \/>\ntheir President in 1990.  Thanks to her leadership, and the support of so<br \/>\nmany others, the Woman\u2019s Club and the Hanover five churches founded the<br \/>\nHanover Food Pantry during her tenure as President.  In the meantime, in<br \/>\n1987, Mary Anne took a job in a then relatively new field with Commonwealth<br \/>\nHematology and Oncology and remained an oncology nurse for the rest of her<br \/>\ncareer until her retirement in 2016.  Mary Anne remains active in the<br \/>\nWoman\u2019s Club, Jrs. as she has been for the past 4 decades, and with the<br \/>\nHanover Food Pantry for the past 3 decades.  She joined the Walnut Hill<br \/>\nGarden Club in 2011 and wishes that she joined earlier!  Additionally, Mary<br \/>\nAnne serves the Alumni Association of the Massachusetts General Hospital<br \/>\nSchool of Nursing as her Class Agent.<\/p>\n<p>The Spirit of Hanover Community Service Award is presented to an individual<br \/>\nwho best exemplifies the spirit of Hanover by voluntarily giving selflessly<br \/>\nof their time, energy and talent to the Town and its citizens thus<br \/>\nenriching our lives, fostering a true sense of community and inspiring us<br \/>\nall to a higher level of service.<\/p>\n<p>Past recipients of the Award include Mrs. Virginia Szejnar, Mrs. Barbara<br \/>\nBarker (-Kemp), Mr. Richard \u201cDick\u201d Eaton, Mrs. Jean Migre, Mrs. Lois<br \/>\nVan Doren, Mr. John Thomson, Mrs. Barbara Itz, Ms. Catherine<br \/>\nHarder-Bernier, Mrs. Joanne B. Cure, Mr. Harold (Hal) D. Thomas, Mr. Roger<br \/>\nA. Leslie, Sr., Mrs. Judy Grecco, Mr. James Gallant, Mr. Ray Miller, and<br \/>\nMr. Les Molyneaux.<\/p>\n<p>Receipt of the Award is commemorated by this reception and by having the<br \/>\nrecipient\u2019s name inscribed on a perpetual plaque which is prominently<br \/>\ndisplayed in the foyer of the Town Hall.
