Hanover Woman’s Club, Juniors is open to new members. Hanover Woman’s Club,
\nJuniors (HWCJ), a local volunteer organization, is part of the
\nInternational General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) of which there are
\n60,000 members worldwide. Formed in 1890 in New York, the organization is
\ndedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through
\nvolunteer service. As a local club, the HWCJ lives up to the motto “Living
\nthe Volunteer Spirit”. The local club of HWCJ was founded in 1970 by a
\ngroup of Hanover residents interested in giving their time, effort and
\nresources to some of the needs of the town. <\/p>\n
Since its inception 53 years ago, the club has sponsored many projects
\nincluding having the bus arms installed on all school buses in Hanover as
\none of their first projects. Each year a Halloween Parade and Breakfast
\nwith Santa are held for the children in the town. Candidates’ Night is
\nheld in the spring prior to town elections and a Library Tea is held in
\nApril for the library volunteers. Scholarships are awarded to deserving
\nseniors at the end of the school year. Other projects have included the
\nbuilding of the bandstand and some funding for the rebuild of the new one
\nseveral years later. In 1991 the club was part of the formation of the
\nHanover Food Pantry and continues to this day with volunteer service to the
\npantry. The club’s fundraisers give back to worthy organizations in the
\ncommunity. Members enjoy new friendships, club dinners and luncheons, an
\nannual auction and programs and crafts at club meetings.<\/p>\n
HWCJ would love to have you as a member. Despite its name as Juniors, the
\nclub member’s ages range from the 40’s to their oldest charter member at
\n96. The club meets the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 p.m. with
\nmost meetings at the John Curtis Free Library. For membership information,
