\nthis topic to all of us here in Hanover has led me to the following post.

After listening to both Hanover and Hanson community meetings on National
\nFireworks site status, Hanover resident Kyra Brissette believes that it is
\nclear the only option is for the National Fireworks site to be listed as a
\nSuperfund site. The Hanover Select Board hasn\u2019t decided whether to
\nsupport or oppose getting the site added to the National Priorities List,
\nbut it has said that they will meet in February. Hanson has already voted
\nto support, and Pembroke will have a say too, since they border the site.

According to Brissette, in the meantime cleanup has been funded by a
\nsettlement with a former property owner, but the $74 million is close to
\nrunning out. The state tried to negotiate with the \u201cpotentially
\nresponsible parties\u201d ? the Department of Defense, the Massachusetts
\nInstitute of Technology and National Coating Co. ? for more money but was
\nunsuccessful.<\/p>\n
At the Hanover and Hanson meetings, officials said $200 million more is
\nneeded to complete the project. It was suggested at both meetings that
\ncommunity members from all towns reach out to the MA members of the House
\nand Senate Committees on Armed Services and ask for funding from the
\nDepartment of Defense to continue the work on the site until it becomes a
\nSuperfund Site and the EPA can take over. According to Brissette, the
\nearliest that the site could be proposed for the National Priorities List
\nis August 2025. <\/p>\n
