Dear fellow Hanoverians:<\/p>\n
Town of Hanover Summer Internship Program applications are now being
\naccepted for motivated high school and college students who want to gain
\nprofessional work experience, build skills such as time management,
\nteamwork, communication, leadership, and critical thinking, and explore new
\ninterests while learning how Hanover town government operates. Interns must
\ndemonstrate maturity and politeness, integrate well within the Town Hall
\nteam environment, and work hard at their assignments. Summer Interns will
\nspend the majority of their time engaged in work for the Town Manager but
\nalso will be assigned to other departments within Hanover town government.
\n Strong preference will be given to students and graduates of Hanover High
\nSchool, South Shore Vocational Technical High School, and those who live in
\nHanover and attend\/attended private high schools.<\/p>\n
Expectations:
\nThe Town of Hanover Summer Internship program will run from the end of this
\nschool year until the start of the next academic year. Participants will be
\nexpected to work four days a week for 30 hours, including 12-hour days each
\nWednesday when Town Hall is open from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm.
\nAs part of the 30 hours per week, Summer Interns will be required to attend
\nvarious evening and night meetings either in-person or via Zoom. Summer
\nInterns will be required to attend all Select Board meetings and a total of
\n5 meetings of different Hanover public bodies (e.g., Planning Board, Zoning
\nBoard of Appeals, Advisory Committee, Conservation Commission, etc.). The
\npurpose of this expectation is for the Summer Interns to broaden their
\nunderstanding of how public bodies operate and how decisions are made at
\nthe local government level.
\nSummer Interns will be assigned various tasks and responsibilities. Over
\ntime, assignments will evolve to match the Intern\u2019s skills, abilities,
\nand interests with the most pressing needs of the Town.
\nSummer Interns will be expected to write a 500-word essay at the conclusion
\nof their internship experience reflecting on what they learned during the
\nsummer.<\/p>\n
Application:
\nInterested candidates for the Town of Hanover Summer Internship program
\nmust submit the following:
\n1.\tCover Letter detailing in 500 words your interest in this program;
\n2.\tResume;
\n3.\tLetter of Reference from a professor\/teacher, coach, previous employer,
\nguidance counselor, etc.;
\n4.\tThe application period for the 2024 Town of Hanover Summer Internship
\nhas begun and will conclude by noon on April 8, 2024. Hiring decisions will
\nbe made in April.
