A silver lining? I reviewed 35 years’ worth of Annual Town Election
\nrecords last week. Confirmed – Saturday, May 18, 2024\u2019s election
\nelicited THE HIGHEST total Annual Town Election turnout in those 35 years.
\nHighest turnout years were as follows:
\n2024 – 4,779
\n1990 – 3,870
\n1997 – 3,347
\n2005 – 2,777
\nSome have asked about the debt exclusion voter turnout in 2008 for the new
\nhigh school. Not for nothing, but that election was held in conjunction
\nwith the September 2008 State Primary, which brings out voters for
\nadditional reasons besides just the local ballot question. Nevertheless,
\nthe turnout for that State Primary Election was still less than last week’s
\nAnnual Town Election – it was 4,413.<\/p>\n
Regardless of which side of the override you were on, the citizens of
\nHanover have certainly spoken. And I call that a good thing.<\/p>\n
