\nannounce the Let Our Rivers Flow mural dedication on Saturday, June 15 from
\n11:00 a.m. \u2013 12:00 p.m. The event will be held on the \u201cgreen\u201d at
\nHanover Crossing, just outside of the J Crew Factory store. They will have

The goal of the North and South Rivers Watershed Association\u2019s Let Our
\nRivers Flow campaign is to raise public awareness around the impacts that
\ndams and other barriers have on our rivers, and the work to restore the
\nhabitats that support river herring and other migratory fish. The mural
\ndepicts the North River and its location at Hanover Crossing highlights the
\nremoval of three dams and two weirs along the Third Herring Brook, which is
\njust behind the former mall turned Hanover Crossing.<\/p>\n
This project has been in the works for six years and NSRWA\u2019s
\ncollaboration with local artists Sally Dean Mello, Cathy McCarthy and Kris
\nBrennen, along with the staff at Hanover Crossing (

\n) has finally brought it to life. It has been truly inspiring to watch the
\nmural unfold over the last few months. Sally and Cathy are well-established
\nartists but they brought so much more than artistic talent to this project.
\nThey have been incredibly welcoming, opening their studio to members of the
\ncommunity to be a part of this project with no art experience required.
\nEvery week brought a new slew of animals or colors or flowers to the mural
\nand with this came new dimension, movement and meaning. <\/p>\n
The mural will be complemented by historical signage detailing the Third
\nHerring Brook restoration (go here for more details:

\n) and removal of the Peterson Pond Dam, as well as benches created from
\nportions of the old mill grindstone that were salvaged from that site. Talk
\nabout collaboration! During an early meeting with the mural artists, Ed
\nCallahan from Hanover Crossing mentioned the idea of turning the salvaged
\nmillstones into benches and Sally immediately made the connection to her
\ncolleague and friend, Kris Brennen. Kris found new life in these old stones
\nand these benches will provide a place for visitors to rest and feel the
\nhistory of our rivers.<\/p>\n
