The Town of Hanover has an opening on the Historical Commission for a
\nvolunteer to be a part of the committee. The parameters of the position as
\nfollows:<\/p>\n
Hanover Historical Commission
\n\u2022\tAppointed by the Select Board.
\n\u2022\tCharged with identifying and supporting the preservation of historic
\nsites in the Town of Hanover.
\n\u2022\tComposed of five members, including a Realtor, an Architect and three
\nCitizens at Large with one year terms.
\n\u2022\tMeetings monthly but may meet more than once a month as needed.
\n\u2022\tCurrent openings: 1 Citizen at Large Member

\nThe Hanover Historical Commission is the town’s agency responsible for
\nidentifying, evaluating, and protecting the historical and archaeological
\nassets within the town. It maintains an inventory of the town’s historic
\nassets and administers specific statutes that protect historic properties.
\nThe Hanover Historical Commission was formed in 1983 to oversee the
\npreservation of our town’s historical elements. The Select Board appoints
\nfive members, each serving a three-year term. The Commission is composed of
\nan architect, a real estate person, a member of the Hanover Historical
\nSociety, and two members at large.
\nThe Commission meets monthly and cooperates with the Planning Board,
\nBuilding Inspector, Assessor, Historical Society, and other groups and
\nindividuals who might seek their advice. The Board suggests appropriate
\nnames for new subdivisions, reviews applications for demolition permits
\nfrom the Building Inspector, receives applications for the installation of
\n“date boards” for old houses, and works to preserve the historical and
\npastoral atmosphere of this fine New England town.
\nThe Commission administers Section 6-26 of the town’s bylaws, “Preservation
\nof Historically Significant Buildings,” by reviewing demolition permit
\napplications for structures older than 75 years. The Commission may
\ndetermine that a structure is historically significant and is empowered to
\ndelay the demolition of significant buildings by up to one year while
\npreservation alternatives are explored.<\/p>\n
