From Kitchen Darkroom to Historical Legacy: The Photography of Thomas Drew
\nLong before modern photography, South Hanover storekeeper Thomas Drew
\n(1845\u20131913) was capturing the soul of Massachusetts’ South Shore.
\nOperating from his home on the banks of the Indian Head River, Drew
\ntransformed his kitchen into a darkroom and used a simple burlap tarp
\noutside as his portrait studio. Today, his incredible collection of
\nglass-plate negatives stands as a breathtaking time capsule of local family
\nlife, friendships, and historic landmarks.<\/p>\n
Don’t miss this opportunity to celebrate a local pioneer with two special
\nevents this summer:
\nFriday, August 14th (1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.): Gain expert insight into
\nDrew’s captivating avocation with a lecture by historian Les Molyneaux at
\nthe Hanover Council on Aging, 665 Center Street.<\/p>\n
Saturday, August 15th (11:00 a.m. \u2013 2:00 p.m.): Get an up-close look at
\nthe past during a special pop-up exhibit at the Stetson House Barn (514
\nHanover Street), featuring Drew’s original cameras, historic negatives, and
\nrarely seen original photo albums. <\/p>\n
